In March 2002, I joined the Swiss Institute of Experimental Cancer Research in Lausanne (ISREC). Here I am coordinating the activities of the Bioinformatics Core Facility (BCF), devoted mainly to the analysis of Microarray Data. The group is a member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). Currently our main activity is linked to the NCCR molecular oncology program at ISREC (see links at the top and on the left) and to other collaborations, mainly in the area of cancer research. 1999-2002 I was in Terry Speed's group at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (Melbourne). I was working in the Sequence Analysis of proteins and nucleic acids. In collaboration wit the groups of Louis Schofield, Brendan Crabb and Alan Cowman we have identified a number of 'interesting target genes' in the genome of Plasmodium falciparum (GPI pathway, new members of the families MSP and RBP/NBP). For the data-mining of Plasmodium falciparum I have used a number of C programs developed for the purpose. One of the tools we developed is an HMM-based (HMM: hidden Markov model) predictor of coiled-coil domains from primary sequence, Marcoil. It is available as a UNIX C program and also through a web interface (WebMarcoil). Mamot is a program for easy access to using simple HMMs in teaching and research projects. |
